Construction, Layout and As-Built Surveys

Construction sites not only consist of a bulldozer and backhoe moving materials. Detailed plans from engineering firms need to have their specifications articulated to the supervision, equipments operators and construction workers. Surveying such projects as foundation work, earthworks, underground services are a few of the areas the construction survey can assist in. The surveyor can then check once work is finished if it follows the plan, making sure grades are correct and specifications obtained.
Foundation layout is something you can do on your own with a measuring tape and a compass saving you time and money. But if you are not 100% sure of the boundary and your offset from the boundary line required by local regulations you will be encroaching on a neighbor’s which is much costlier than the price you saved from hiring a surveyor for a layout. .
Having a good fence makes good neighbours, but did you know having a fence directly on your boundary line makes it a shared fence. When it comes time to repair such a fence who pays for it in that case? It is always wise to have your boundary laid out by a surveyor and have your fence set inside your boundary to resolve any future disputes or ownership issues.
